What we do

One point of navigation for the practical consequences of a death.

PHRENETECH Ltd designs and delivers technology-enabled, human-led funeral and bereavement navigation for NHS organisations, local authorities, employers and insurers. Through Funeral Experts and our evolving Life and Loss services, we help people manage the practical, financial and administrative consequences of dying and loss.

What people get help with

  • Funeral options, choices and published prices
  • Registering a death, notifications and administration after a death
  • Signposting on estates and probate
  • Council tax, housing and utility administration
  • Bereavement payments, social security entitlements, income maximisation and grants
  • Connection to appropriate specialist support

How it is delivered

Digital information and consumer choice tools, referrals from partner organisations, trained telephone advisers, and onward signposting or referral where needs go beyond our remit.

Support is free and impartial for individuals and families. Organisations that commission the service do so on a commercial basis.

Employers and public-sector HR

Practical bereavement support for employees.

A non-clinical, impartial funeral and bereavement navigation service that complements an organisation's existing employee wellbeing, EAP and occupational health arrangements.

Employee bereavement support

NHS organisations

Extending bereavement support beyond the clinical pathway.

The period following a death creates responsibilities that cannot all be resolved in the hospital. Our non-clinical navigation model helps families manage funeral options, administration, financial entitlements and onward support, while providing NHS teams with a defined pathway for appropriate signposting and, where agreed, secure referrals.

  • Before referral: a partner-defined pathway, communication materials, role boundaries and staff information.
  • At referral: an appropriate lawful basis, transparency, a minimum necessary dataset, an agreed transfer route and auditable processes.
  • After referral: trained advisers providing practical navigation, not medical or clinical advice.
  • Evaluation: transparent performance and reach reporting and operational review.

Our NHS experience includes the Liverpool pilot with Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and a Service Level and Data Sharing Agreement signed in 2026 with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Local authorities

Helping councils make bereavement support clearer, fairer and easier to access.

People who have lost someone may need help choosing an affordable funeral, understanding their options, making benefit applications or dealing with housing, council tax and other administration. We support local authorities with impartial information, coordinated referral pathways and evidence-led service development.

This includes an impartial funeral director search with standardised price information published under the Competition and Markets Authority's funeral price disclosure requirements, early signposting and active referral where authorised, and support for people facing financial vulnerability.

Our local authority experience includes the Liverpool pilot with Liverpool City Council. We are an APSE Approved Partner.

Insurers and assistance providers

Practical bereavement navigation that complements specialist support.

Insurance and assistance providers often support customers at the point of bereavement. Our independent advisers can provide a defined service for funeral options, paperwork, financial entitlements and administrative navigation, with agreed safeguarding and referral controls.

Our referral services partnership with RedArc Assured shows how practical support can complement specialist emotional and nurse-led services delivered by a partner. RedArc's nurse-led support is RedArc's own service.

What we do not do

  • We are not a clinical, counselling or therapy service.
  • We are not an emergency or crisis service, and human advisers are not available around the clock.
  • We are not a funeral director, and we are not part of the NHS.
  • We are not an employee assistance programme.

Human support is at the heart of the service. Where people need emotional, clinical or emergency help, we signpost and refer them to the right specialist services.
